Lunacrypt Capital
Awakening the Angel System: Apocalypse: A LitRPG Progression FantasyLunacrypt Capital is the former seat of Imperial power and one of the clearest physical markers of the world’s collapse. Once a functioning capital, it becomes a “cesspool of dead bodies, demonspawn, and abandoned debris” during the Apostle invasion, forcing Selfia to abandon it and move the remnants of her administration and population elsewhere.
Capital of the Imperium
Lunacrypt Capital functions as more than a backdrop: it is the administrative center from which Selfia and her allies attempt to govern during the catastrophe. Selfia is shown sitting at a desk that had once belonged to Kenichi while listening to Lita and Kenichi read their daily reports. The detail places the crisis inside a former civic workspace, where ordinary bureaucratic routines continue even as the capital around them has ceased to provide security or stability.
The city’s importance is also measured by the scale of its loss. The Apostle invasion brings threats described as unknown since the founding of the Imperium, and Lunacrypt Capital is reduced to corpses, demonspawn, and wreckage. Its fall therefore represents not merely a military defeat but the destruction of the institutional center on which Imperial continuity depended.
Destruction and Abandonment
The devastation of Lunacrypt Capital makes continued residence impossible. Selfia is forced to move her base of operations far from the invasion’s reach, transforming relocation from a strategic choice into a condition of survival. The capital’s ruin also reveals the material cost of the war: the government cannot simply withdraw its leaders, because millions of Imperial citizens and immense quantities of infrastructure must be displaced with them.
This exodus is especially difficult because no single city can contain the population and equipment being moved. The floating city of the Theocracy provides housing and protection for the thousands who follow Selfia, but the refuge is only a partial solution. Food becomes scarce, ammunition and replacement parts run short, and survivors from nomad, Paladin, and Imperial communities begin fighting among themselves. Lunacrypt Capital’s destruction thus propagates outward, converting the city’s fall into a humanitarian and logistical crisis across the surviving territories.
War-Torn World Around the Capital
The wider landscape confirms that Lunacrypt Capital is part of a planetary disaster rather than an isolated urban ruin. Elsewhere, battles leave shores covered with corpses, flesh, and poisoned red water, while miasma and mana violently reshape the earth. In one major confrontation, the impact of Jack Tanjihiro Chae-wong and Athena’s movements splits the ground and turns sand into smoldering glass. These scenes establish the environmental scale of the conflict that destroys Imperial infrastructure and makes normal political geography meaningless.
The same instability allows Heaven to rise from beneath blood-soaked soil as a structure larger than anything Jack has witnessed. The emergence signals that old boundaries and assumptions have failed: cities are no longer secure fixed points, and buried powers can become mobile fortresses. Against this background, Lunacrypt Capital’s ruin is both literal and historical. The former capital belongs to a world of stable institutions that the invasion has made unrecoverable.
From Ruin to Postwar Reconstruction
Five years later, the surviving world begins to replace wartime capitals with new political arrangements. Jacksonville, called the Bastion of the New Frontier, is established as a sovereign country by Lita and the Hoshido on unexplored land. The former Heaven is also transformed into the Frontier’s governmental capital after thousands of newly resurrected people require homes. Gold walls and marble pillars that once belonged to a demonic stronghold are fitted with wires, electric signs, homes, shops, and council banners.
This later reconstruction throws Lunacrypt Capital’s fate into sharper relief. Jacksonville’s beaches become a tourist attraction, while Heaven’s ruins acquire civic and commercial life; Lunacrypt, by contrast, remains associated with the dead, the demonspawn, and abandoned debris. The contrast suggests that political renewal does not restore the old center. Instead, the survivors build authority through migration, repurposed ruins, and new sovereign communities, leaving the destroyed capital as the negative foundation of the postwar order.
Narrative Significance
Lunacrypt Capital embodies the collapse of centralized power under apocalyptic pressure. Its destruction displaces not only buildings but the people, machinery, supplies, and administrative habits that made the Imperium governable. The image of Selfia working from Kenichi’s former desk while receiving daily reports captures the contradiction at the heart of the city: governance persists as a procedure after the physical conditions of government have disappeared.
The city also links military violence to ecological and social aftereffects. Corpses and demonspawn replace civic life; poisoned environments and shattered infrastructure make resettlement difficult; shortages and factional infighting expose the limits of political unity. In the later world, new centers emerge through adaptation rather than restoration. Lunacrypt Capital therefore stands as both a lost capital and a warning: the survival of institutions depends less on preserving a historic center than on whether displaced people can construct a livable order after that center is gone.
